Kamran Ghalili, MD

Dr. Ghalili attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York where he received his medical degree. He then went to Boston University and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine and his fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease. He also completed a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the New York Medical College. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. Dr. Ghalili also completed training in Nuclear Cardiology, Cardiac CT Angiograms and Peripheral Vascular Interventions. He has been a primary investigator for multiple clinical research studies, including drug-eluting stents. He currently oversees marketing and strategy for Oregon Heart Center.

Deborah Hughes, MD

Dr. Hughes obtained her medical degree at the University of Vermont. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, where she stayed to continue her fellowship training in the Clinical Investigator program and General Cardiology. Her research interests include clinical application of endothelial progenitor cells and therapies targeted for angiogenesis. She has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.

Dr. Hughes believes in an individualized approach to patient care. She tailors treatment plans for each of her patients, providing patient education, proven treatment options and the latest advances in medicine.

Dr. Hughes is board certified in Adult Cardiovascular Disease, Nuclear Cardiology and Adult Echocardiography. She is trained to treat a broad spectrum of adult cardiovascular diseases and has a special interest in heart failure, valvular heart disease and heart disease in women. Currently serves as the OHC director of nuclear PET stress lab which is an advanced imaging modality for detecting coronary artery disease.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Hughes returned to Oregon after completing her training in Minnesota. In her spare time, she enjoys visiting family throughout the west coast and many outdoor activities including camping and horseback riding.

Hrishi Iyengar, MD

Dr. Iyengar received his medical degree from Mahatma Gandhi Mission’s Medical College in India. He proceeded to complete his internship and residency in Internal Medicine; followed by his fellowship in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology from the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. He specializes in Coronary and Peripheral Vascular Interventional Procedures, and Nuclear Cardiology. Dr. Iyengar is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology. He is currently the Director of Non-Invasive Services for the Salem Health Heart and Vascular Institute. He is married with one child.

Raghu Kamineni, MD

Dr. Kamineni received his medical degree from the University of Health Sciences, India. His internship and residency in Internal Medicine were completed at the Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, the Mayo Clinics in Scottsdale, Arizona and Rochester, Minnesota. He finished his fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at the University of Arizona, Health Sciences Center in Tucson, Arizona. He then completed a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at The University of Arizona. He also specializes in Carotid and Peripheral Vascular Interventions. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Interventional Cardiology. He has co-authored two medical textbooks and has been published in peer-reviewed journals. He is currently the Medical Director for the Salem Health Heart and Vascular Institute. He is married with two children.

Barath Krishnamurthy, MD

Born in Minnesota and raised in Maryland, Dr. Krishnamurthy received his medical degree from the University of Maryland, where he graduated in the top 15% of his class. After completing his residency in Internal Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York (where he served as Chief Resident), Dr. Krishnamurthy completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at Tufts Medical Center in Boston and a second fellowship in Interventional Cardiology, also at Tufts. During this second fellowship, Dr. Krishnamurthy received advanced training in the areas of high risk, complex coronary and peripheral interventions and in the interpretation of advanced imaging studies.

Dr. Krishnamurthy has participated in numerous cardiology research projects, and has co- authored a number of papers in medical journals. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.

An avid jazz and blues fan, Dr. Krishnamurthy also enjoys hiking, camping, mountain biking, tennis and cooking. His wife, is an emergency room physician, and they are the proud parents of two daughters.

Wallace Lai, MD

After graduating from medical school at the University of KY, He moved to the pacific NW and made it his home. He spent 9 years at OHSU during which he completed his internal medicine residency as well as his cardiology fellowship, electrophysiology fellowship and clinical research. Since 2000, He has been practicing in Salem and was instrumental in starting the electrophysiology program at Salem Hospital in 2001. He specializes in all aspects of cardiovascular medicine, particularly cardiac arrhythmias and cardiac devices. He also specializes in vascular medicine having worked closely with vascular surgery for more than 8 years. In his spare time, he enjoys photography, reading and exploring the culinary offers of the pacific NW.

Sandeep Saha, MD

Dr. Saha received his medical degree at the prestigious Seth G.S. Medical College and King Edward VII Memorial Hospital at the University of Mumbai, India, where he graduated with distinction in the top 10% of his class. His residency training in Internal Medicine was completed at The Chicago Medical School in North Chicago, Illinois. He then worked as a Faculty Hospitalist at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington, and was Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington. He then went on to complete a fellowship in Echocardiography at the University of California in San Francisco, followed by fellowships in Cardiology and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. During his fellowship, he also earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Research from Rush University. Dr. Saha holds active Board certifications in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, Cardiovascular Diseases, Internal Medicine, Nuclear Cardiology, and Echocardiography.

Dr. Saha has authored several original research papers in highly respected medical journals, written chapters in cardiology textbooks, and edited a book on current advances in cardiovascular risk. He has presented his research over multiple years at the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the Heart Rhythm Society, and remains actively involved in clinical research, medical education, responsible use of social media for medical professionals, and patient advocacy. He serves as a peer reviewer for a number of illustrious medical journals – including JACC (Journal of the American College of Cardiology), Circulation, Annals of Internal Medicine, European Heart Journal, and the American Journal of Cardiology, to name a few. Dr. Saha has been elected as a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society, Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Saha specializes in the management of a wide variety of cardiovascular conditions. He has advanced training in implantation of cardiac devices such as pacemakers, defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization devices, left atrial appendage occlusion devices, as well as pacemaker/defibrillator lead revisions and extractions. He also performs ablation procedures for the treatment of a variety of abnormal heart rhythms – such as supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, atrial flutter, and atrial fibrillation. Dr. Saha enjoys traveling, creative writing, practicing yoga and meditation with his wife (who is a certified yoga instructor), and supporting his favorite soccer teams Arsenal and FC Barcelona.

Anan Tawil, MD, RPVI

Dr. Tawil graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the Jordan University of Science and Technology in Jordan. He then completed his general surgery training at the Columbia University at Harlem Hospital in New York. He completed his vascular surgery specialty training at the Michigan Vascular Center in Flint, Michigan. Dr. Tawil is trained in all aspects of traditional open, minimally invasive endovascular and hybrid interventions of various vascular diseases. He believes in an individualized approach to patient care tailoring treatment plans for each of his patients which include providing patient education, using proven treatment options and incorporating the latest advances in medicine for the best possible outcome. Even though he practices all aspects of vascular surgery, he is especially interested in carotid disease as well as critical limb ischemia and limb salvage. Dr. Tawil is board certified in general and vascular surgery. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter. He also enjoys farming, flying airplanes and playing racquetball.

Kevin H. Thompson, DO

Dr. Thompson received his medical degree at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Vallejo, California, where he graduated with highest honors. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center where he was selected as Chief Resident. He went on to complete a Cardiovascular Medicine and Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin. He serves as a Fellow at the American College of Cardiology and as an Associate Professor at Western University of Health Sciences.

Dr. Thompson is trained in interventional cardiology and performs various procedures, including angioplasty and stent insertion of the coronary arteries. He has a specific interest in complex coronary interventions, including stent insertions to chronic complete blockages called chronic total occlusions (CTO). He performs the majority most of procedures from the wrist (radial approach) which minimizes bleeding, improves patient comfort, and minimizes bed rest.

Dr. Thompson believes comprehensive, quality care includes personalized education, guidance, and support for each patient. Through compassionate, but honest dialogue, Dr. Thompson strives to help patients through what is often one of the most difficult times of their lives, and to improve the quality of their lives for many years to come. He finds it satisfying to watch patients let go of unhealthy habits, adopt new positive behaviors, and effectively take charge of their lives. He is a strong proponent of exercise to reduce future cardiac events and serves as a national speaker for lipid management.

Dr. Thompson is married (his wife Kim is also a physician) and has two young boys. He and his family enjoy outdoor activities involving skiing and hiking. Dr. Thompson is an avid college basketball fan and North Carolina Tarheel supporter.

Katelyn Williams, FNP-C

Katelyn Williams is a Family Nurse Practitioner. She began her career in 2009 as a registered nurse and she brings experience in cardiology, critical care, and emergency medicine. She then completed her Master of Science degree at Frontier Nursing University where she graduated with high honors. She holds a national certification with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). She believes in individualized patient care. Her goal it to educate patients regarding their current health status and to help them understand their treatment options and choices. She believes that empowering patients with shared decision making will promote optimal patient outcomes. Katelyn is married and has two young children.

George R. Murphy, PA-C

George Murphy is a Physician Assistant. He is a native Oregonian and grew up in Eugene. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Puget Sound in psychology and music. He later earned a degree in paramedicine from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) before working as a paramedic in Raleigh, North Carolina for several years prior to moving back to Oregon. He completed his master’s degree at the OHSU School of Medicine and is certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Following graduation, he worked in a local emergency department before transitioning to cardiology. George provides care for all general cardiology conditions.

George enjoys staying engaged with medical education by teaching at OHSU. In his free time, he enjoys skiing, playing tennis, hiking, and travel.

Steven Shockley, PA-C

Steven Shockley is a Physician Assistant (PA-C). He is a native Oregonian and grew up in Klamath Falls. Before beginning his career in health care, he served in the United States Navy for six years as a Master-At-Arms specializing in Waterborne High Value Asset Protection and High Value Asset Retrieval. In 2016 he left the military to pursue medicine and completed his undergraduate degree at Portland State University in Health Sciences. He gained health care experience working as a Medical Assistant for an outpatient vascular surgery clinic in the Portland area for several years before attending PA school. He then went on to complete both his Master of Medical Science (MMSc) and Doctor of Medical Science (DMSC) degrees at George Fox University in Newberg, OR, and is certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Steven’s doctoral work focused on diagnosis and treatment of acute cardiovascular conditions, specifically life-threatening arrhythmias including Pulseless Electrical Activity (PEA), and “pseudo-PEA”. Following graduation, he worked in a local Urgent Care before transitioning to Cardiology. Steven is married and enjoys hiking, cooking, playing music, and attending Portland Trailblazer’s games in his free time. Steven provides care for all general cardiology conditions.
